Dear colleagues,

It is a special time for EFPA! The past presidential conference in Belgrade we could discuss important topics and thus prepare the upcoming general assemblies. Thus, extensive work on the Statutes as well as on the foundations of EuroPsy have taken further hurdles. And at the same time all our groups are working on their reports for the General Assembly in Brighton, taking stock of their work in the past two years.

Our News Magazine keeps reporting on the latest news, not only from the Executive Council, but also from the groups and the world. And we start directly with the good news that WHO no longer considers COVID a Health Emergency of International Concern. Mental health also plays a special role. That is why we have a new section in the News Magazine: News from Mental Health.

Of course, in this News Magazine we also report on the latest news about ECP2023 and Climate Change and Psychology. All this is complemented by exciting news from our member associations. Many thanks to all those who have once again contributed to making our News Magazine a colorful bouquet of information. We hope you all enjoy reading it! We are very much looking forward to seeing you again in Brighton!

Yours,
Christoph Steinebach - EFPA President

EFPA once again supported our Affiliate Member EFPSA, the European Federation of Psychology Students’ Associations, at their 37th EFPSA Congress which was held in Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal March 27th to April 1st 2023.

The Congress theme was “Information is transformation: Unravelling psychology's role in policy- making", aiming to provide psychology students with the knowledge and tools to create meaningful and significant changes in their communities through an understanding of how psychological science can contribute to local, national and European public policies. The sub-themes were in the main aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (2030 Agenda).

Joint statement

EU Health Policy Platform Artificial Intelligence (AI) Thematic Network

The EFPA executive Council accepted the recommendation by EFPA Board of Assessment, to endorse the joint statement from the EU Health Policy Platform AI Thematic Network.

AI is highly relevant to our professional practice, particularly as the European Commission and Governments the world over are giving it a lot of attention, including tightening regulation. Nigel Evans, Chair of EFPA Board of Assessment, commented:
"We are already offering leadership in this area, previously responding to EU directives on AI, and most recently Medical Devices.Covering many areas the statement importantly flags the potential inequalities and bias within AI when 'assessing' different groups in society. We believe we all gain in collective strength and association by endorsing the Statement."
